Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has assured Rivers women that his administration will continue to be women-friendly as it strives to develop
the state.
He declared that women will always feature prominently in the creation of a New Rivers State.
In a message to Rivers Women to mark this year’s International Women’s Day, Governor Wike noted that women are strategically placed in his administration to help in translating the tenets of the New Rivers Development Blueprint into reality.
The governor expressed satisfaction with the contributions of women to the growth of the state.
He felicitated with women across the globe for their roles in the promotion of peace, development and societal stability.
Governor Wike declared that his administration will always celebrate women.
Be Bold To Do What Is Right, Deputy Governor
Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Ipalibo Harry Banigo advised women in the State to be bold in doing what is right and try to reach the highest pinnacle in any vocation they found themselves.
Dr. Banigo gave the advice when a delegation of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria MWAN, Rivers State Chapter visited her at Government House, Port Harcourt, as part of their advocacy visit to mark this year’s International Women’s Day Celebration.
The Deputy Governor who described women as indispensable gender in societal development said women are active and willing to learn and serve with passion to compliment the efforts of their male counterparts.
“In every sphere of human endeavour, you see women, they are active, they are willing to learn, willing to serve and they serve with a heart of passion,” she stated.
Dr. Banigo who urged women in the State to reflect on the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day Celebration “Be Bold for Change” encouraged them to be transparent and show integrity in all their undertakings.
She stated that the International Women’s Day celebration is all about celebrating a rural, professional and career woman for her effort towards building an egalitarian society and tasked women to always remain good example for future generations.
In her speech, the President of Medical Women Association of Nigeria MWAN, Dr. (Mrs.) Rosemary Ogu said the focus of this year’s celebration is for women to be bold for change, break the ceiling and look beyond their barriers to be able to get to where they ought to be.
Dr. Ogu said MWAN has been involved in advocacy campaigns to end the violence against women and girls and enjoined the privileged women to do more in order to impact positively on the society.
