N30k Minimum Wage: Labour Wants Workers to take Case to FG

Nigeria’s Labour organization through the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC),

has asked the Nigerian workers to take their case to the federal government for the implementation of the proposed new minimum wage of N30,000.

According to the labour body, this should come with adequate consequential adjustments to avert the likelihood of workers embarking on strike soon.

In a statement made available to SHARPEDGENews in Abuja, Messrs. Simon Achaver and Alade Lawal both Chairman and Secretary, of the negotiating council made the disclosure while engaging government officials on Tuesday.

The Chairman stressed that all efforts to convince government on the implementation fell on deaf ears, adding that it will not embark on further negotiation before it will down tools.

The Council said: “The consequential adjustment committee 2 weeks ago agreed that the proposal of the TUS that the salary of officers on grade 07 to 14 should be increased by 29% and that of officers on levels 15 to 17 by 24 percent vis-a-vis that of government side of 10% for officers on grade level 7 to 14, 5.5% for those on grade 15 to 17 should be forwarded to President Muhammadu Buhari to see the patriotic position of labour and approve appropriate consequential adjustment accordingly.

The statement also averred that at it’s September meeting government officials brought new proposal of 11% pay rise for officers on grade level 7 to 14 instead of it’s earlier 10% and 6.5% for 15 to 17 grades instead of the former 5.5%.

Achaver, while e pressing disgust at the turn of events berated political appointees who are bent on derailing the N30, 000 minimum wage and the consequential adjustment by government.
