NAFDAC Improves Registration with Technical Upgrade

THE National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has begun the use of a software solution for the regulation and control of the importation, exportation, manufacture, distribution, advertisement, sale, and use of foods, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, chemicals, detergents and bottle water in Nigeria.

The software solution tagged NAFDAC Automated Product Administration and Monitoring Solutions (NAPAMS) is expected to help the agency overcome the challenges of adherence to timelines for registration, documentation, vetting of product samples with respect to pass offs, scheduling of approval meetings and post registration activities. Director –General NAFDAC, Paul Orhii in his address at the launch of NAPAMS said: “Contending with these large volume of activities has been cumbersome due to the amount of paper work and unnecessary physical interaction with clients.

“Consistent with the status as one of the top 20 leading regulatory agencies in the world, the Agency initiated computerization of registration process in order to reduce the volume of paper work in the different Divisions and Units of the Regulatory and Registration Directorate”.

“In line with this, our registration process was reviewed and streamlined making it more transparent with a view to ensure a timeline of 90 days for processing of applications for registration of products.
