The National Agency for Food and Drugs’ Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has received banned Nimesulide tablets worth N6 million from the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Kaduna for destruction.
The Northwest Zonal Head of thec Agency, Dr Eric Iful, disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday in Kaduna.
Iful said that Nimesulide tablet is a banned drug which has adverse effect on the liver and other organs.
He said that the drugs were intercepted by men of the NCS on patrol in a truck along Niger-Katsina border.
The zonal head further disclosed that investigation was on-going to arrest the suspects who abandoned the truck on sighting the officers.
Iful commended the Customs for its efforts in collaborating with NAFDAC to ensure that fake drugs and other unwholesome regulated products were not consumed by the public.
He urged the public to report to the nearest NAFDAC office anywhere such drugs are sold to safeguard the health of the public.
Iful said the agency has recorded a tremendous success towards detecting fake drugs with the use of the newly-introduced Truscan machine.
