A group within the Peoples Democratic Party, Progressive Youth Forum, has advised contestants for the position of National Secretary
of the PDP, to step down for a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Mulikat Akande Adeola.
In canvassing the move, the PYF stated that what the PDP needs at this crucial stage of the nation’s life are unity and people with experience.
The group in a statement signed by its coordinator, Mr. Oladipo Aremu, stressed: “PDP at a crucial moment like this, cannot afford disunity in any form, because the whole country is looking up to us to rescue the nation from the hiatus of the ruling party. Apart from that, Mulikat Akande-Adeola is an epitome of good character, experience and integrity.
“We shouldn’t allow her to be robbed of her deserving slot as it happened when she wanted to become the Speaker of the House of Representatives the other day”
The group added that with Akande-Adeola as National Secretary, the PDP would be headed for a return to power, “as the woman is not only a game changer but also an achiever of good aura and luck.”
Meanwhile, Akande-Adeola who served as House Leader in the House of Representatives in the last dispensation, has said she is qualified to vie for the post of secretary of the party, and would use her expertise to sanitise the party.
She said electing her as National Secretary of the PDP would be symbolic for the Nigerian woman.
“It is a well known fact that one of the factors affecting women’s political advancement and representation is lack of internal democracy and the dearth of women in leadership structures of political parties,” she said.
The politician, who hails from Oyo State, added that if voted into power, she would join hands with other officials to organise a nationwide party registration drive for new members.
