The Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) has held the first Talk-To-The Regulator (TTTR) Forum for 2023.
The Forum was held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The Talk-To-The Regulator Forum is a platform for non-discriminatory interaction between licensees and the regulator.
The two-day event brought together stakeholders and licensees in the telecommunications sector to discuss critical industry issues and emerging trends.
The forum gives room for active engagement and dialogue on industry-related issues of national interest.
The objective was to enhance development, regulations and improve service delivery.
Originally slated for 2022, the Forum was postponed due to a devastating flood disaster that affected Bayelsa State and other regions.
The telecommunications industry has undergone rapid technological advancements, resulting in remarkable milestones and increased expectations among stakeholders.
Besides, NCC has implemented various measures to improve regulations and adapt to the evolving landscape.
The commission has also facilitated the roll-out of 5G services and introduced the Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) license to bridge the gap in underserved and unserved areas.
Moreover, the NCC is currently reviewing the scope and structure of existing licenses to make them more robust and adaptable to emerging industry trends.
The commission is also leading efforts to achieve the goals outlined in the Nigeria National Broadband Plan (NNBP 2020-2025), which aims to achieve a 90% broadband penetration rate by 2025.
During the interactive sessions, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, NCC Executive Vice Chairman, encouraged licensees to ask questions, provide feedback, and propose solutions to address concerns.
The Executive Vice Chairman also used the opportunity expressed his condolences to the people of Bayelsa State and the nation for the unprecedented flood disaster.
He also commended the state for its preparedness and hoped that such disasters would not occur again.
The TTTR Forum in Yenagoa reflects the NCC’s commitment to promoting collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement in the telecommunications sector. The collective efforts of industry stakeholders and regulators are poised to achieve greater heights, improving investment opportunities and enhancing service delivery for all Nigerians.
The NCC also renewed it’s dedications to its mandate of creating an enabling environment for robust telecommunications services, promoting fair competition, protecting consumers, and contributing to the socio-economic development of Nigeria.
