NEMA partners Kogi SEMA on effective disaster preparation, response

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has partnered the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on effective disaster preparation and response in the state.

Mr Mustapha Ahmed, Director-General, NEMA, said this in a statement signed by Mr Justin Uwazuruonye, Head, Abuja Operations Office, on Friday in Abuja.

Ahmed, represented by Uwazuruonye, said that the agreement was reached at the end of a one-day humanitarian co-ordination meeting with the state agency.

He said that following the recent incident of communal crisis at Dekina and Omala Local Government Areas of the state, it became imperative to strengthen their collaboration to handle disasters.

According to him, only one agency of government cannot successfully carry out humanitarian activities, as such all stakeholders must work together to bring the needed assistance and relief to the affected persons.

He also urged the participants, to carry out sensitisation and awareness campaigns on early warning signs and seasonal climate predictions, as the rainy season sets in.
