The newly elected as the Sarkin Samarin of Nigeria, Mr Abdulhamid Haliru has harped on unity, peace and youth creativity for sustainable development of the country.
Haliru, made the call on Friday in Abuja at his inauguration by the Council of Traditional Youth Chiefs Forum of Nigeria.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sarkin Samarin is the leader of traditional youth chiefs.
He said that the title conferred on him was a call to service and a heavy responsibility that he must carry out diligently with focus on youth development.
“This is a heavy burden, and a heavy responsibility that I have looked forward to and am excited that with God’s grace and all the support of the people and the government I will succeed.
“Part of my plan is to see that the council is fully recognized, structured and institutionalize with the commissioning and running of all its activities.
“I also hope to bring enlightenment that those other councils like the National Youth Council of Nigeria have not been able to bring.
“But first it is very important for the youth to be creative, supportive, positive, hopeful, and learn to be good followers,’’ he said.
Haliru said that leadership was not just about the character or capacity of a person, but creativity was the only sustainable tool to lasting quality leadership.
He appreciated the caliber of elderly and intellectually exposed first class emirs in the country for believing in his ability to lead and promised not to disappoint them.
Haliru pledged to bring happiness to the youth by bringing experienced traditional leaders and stakeholders together to share experiences and information that would address the direct concerns of the youths and Nigeria at large.
He called for the support of his executives to contribute their quote to nation building by brain storming on ideas that would foster peace and bring solutions to critical issues that could transform the country positively.
“I have a very good team, with experienced people that have exposed minds that can provide solid ideas that would birth positive transformation.
“Just like our President Bola Tinubu said, I urge all hands to be on deck and for everyone to remain united and offer crucial advise, expertise and experience for the betterment of Nigeria,’’ he said.
Alhaji Sani Daura, the Chairman Board of Trustee of the council, passed a vote of confidence in the newly inaugurated leader of the council and advised him to remain focus.
The Sarkin Samarin of Lafia Nassarawa State, Mr Aliyu Yusuf-Shehu, expressed satisfaction with the fact that a young person had been elected and inaugurated to lead the council in the country.
“We are here today to meet and present our leader, that is the essence of our gathering today and we have done that and we have a new leadership who is a young dynamic young man.
“We know that we cannot achieve anything economically or politically without the involvement of the youth.
“And we as traditional youth leaders are here to make history and to chart the course for the young people so that we would speak with one voice,’’ he said.
The Sarauniya Matase Mata of Nigeria, Mrs Hauwa Gidado, urged the newly inaugurated leader to ensure fair participation of women in his leadership.
Gidado said that women were saddled with so many responsibilities and were often met with so many setbacks and only a woman could best represent their plights.
“We the women of the council are ready to work and support the new leader.
“Our needs should be prioritised, such as empowerment, concerns on rape, early marriage, sexual and gender based violence and others,’’ she said. (NAN)
