NGO Condemns Assault And Electoral Malpractice In Kuje Area Council

Free Community Worldwide Foundation, a Non- Governmental Organisation has condemned the assault on the All Progressive Congress(APC) agents and the violent activities carried out by the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) supporters during the just concluded chairmanship election in Kuje Area Council of the FCT.

The group’s Publicity Secretary Engr. Monday Oloja, who led a team of over five NGOs and other human rights activists to observe the Kuje election issued a communique stating that there was no election because of the abnormalities that was observed.

According to him, INEC realeased results for only seven (7) wards out of the ten (10) wards in Kuje Area Council. An APC agent was mercilessly butchered because he dared to oppose the PDP agents who counted disqualified voters sheets to their own advantage.

He also revealed that there were violent activities at Gaube Primary School, Pegi Primary School, Sabo Polling Unit, Anguwan Gade Primary School and Kango Polling Units among others. In Pegi, only 25% were able to vote leaving the remaining 75% stranded without casting their votes.

“It was very certain that INEC was not ready for this election because apart from the fact that there was only one voting machine for over 2,500 voters, most BVAS machines failed in many polling units leaving many voters disenfranchised.

“Cars and property were vandalised by PDP hoodlums and security agents aided by INEC officials, he said.

“We are calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Federal Government to annul the Kuje Chairmanship Election because of the abnormalities and violent attacks that were carried out.

“We demand for a re-election in Kuje Area Council because these atrocities can pose a threat to our democracy and to the forthcoming nationwide election in 2023,” he said.
