Mrs Edidiong Idang, Founder of the Initiative for Peace and Women’s Rights in Africa (IPWR-A), has announced a 1,500 dollars grant to empower young women through a transformative challenge.

The challenge will be held in celebration of the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child on Oct. 12.

Idang told newsmen on Monday in Abuja, Idang highlighted that the competition, titled “My Role in My Community,” was designed for young women aged 15 to 20.

She said it aimed to celebrate their essential contributions to society by encouraging them to take leadership roles and drive positive change in their communities.

Founded in 2012, Idang said the IPWR-A was dedicated to advancing the rights and empowerment of women and girls across Africa.

“This year’s competition invites young women from educational institutions to express their impact on their communities through essays, poetry, or artwork.

“Each category will award a 500 grant dollars, with the competition open to participants from across Africa.

“The challenge will be conducted in both English and French to ensure inclusivity,’’ she said.

Idang emphasised that the initiative was not just about participation but about empowering young women to embrace leadership and become catalysts for change in their communities.

“The application process opens in August, with further details on submission to be announced soon.”
