Niger-Delta Area Militants Attack Italian Oil Firm Installation

Italian oil and gas giants, ENI, has reported that one of their pipelines was attacked by suspected ex-militants on Friday morning.

A spokesperson for the oil company said that the pipeline leading to Tedidaba, Bayelsa State was destroyed.

“We can confirm that a pipeline leading to Tebidaba, in the Clough-Creek area has been attacked,” she said.

Similarly, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has claimed responsibility for the attack.

In a statement released by its spokesperson, MEND said that its militants were responsible for the attack and had, overnight, destroyed one wellhead and one Manifold on truck lines belonging to Agip.

Agip, which is a unit of ENI, owns a Tedidaba-Brass pipeline in Bayelsa State, Southern Nigeria.

Over the last two months, there has been a resurgence in militant attacks in the region.
