Nigeria Police Display New Operation Outfit for ‘Test-Run’

ACTING Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed D. Abubakar, on Tuesday personally dressed in what he hopes to be a new special outfit, or uniform, for a police organization undergoing reform under his command.

In a statement released in Abuja, Mr. Abubakar said that the president has approved the test-run of the new outfit, with an aim to making it permanent.

According to the statement from the Police Headquarters, signed by the police’s Public Relations Officer, Olusola E. Amore, the personal appearance of the police boss in the new uniform is a “process of test running the uniform as one of the Force’s operational outfits.

“The President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Force of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, has approved a test-run of a camouflage dress for the Nigeria Police Force as one of its operational attires.

“IGP stated on the 13th March, 2012 that the new dress is in line with the transformation agenda of the Federal Government and the long desire of the Police Management-Team to reform and to launder an acceptable image for the police through the turn-out of its officers and men.

“The camouflage which is an admixture of black, white and ash colours, will serve as an operational dress for the police with some inherent advantages when fully integrated and confirmed as one of the official police outfits.

“The advantages of the new police camouflage include, cost effective to maintain; operationally durable; highly customized with security features to forestall impersonation and environmentally friendly.

“The Police Boss is using this medium to call on general public to come up with constructive criticisms regarding the new police camouflage, so that public opinion will be given adequate consideration.”
