Nigerian Cardiologist, Oluyemi Badero, Gets Top-Level US Recognition

A United States-based organization which publishes a leading annual journal of distinguished US medical practitioners, Castle Connolly, has named a Nigerian, Dr. Oluyemi Badero, as one of the top interventional cardiologists in the United States.

Dr. Badero, who is a 1984 M.B. B.S. graduate of then-University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), is one of a few African and African-American doctors trained in his area of specialty in medicine. The doctor had two residency trainings at the State University of New York, from 1990 to 1994 and at Yale from 1994 to 1998.

Dr. Badero is not the first to be so noted by Castle Connolly. Other Nigerian doctors featured in the yearly publication include Professor Ferdinand Ofodile, Dr Ola Akinboboye and Dr Chukwuma Okadigwe.

According to Castle Connolly, the process of selecting the top doctors “begins with the identification of a select pool of board-certified physicians from the total numbers of doctors practicing in a given area.” The process involves a survey of already distinguished and leading physicians, hospital CEO’s and medical directors who are asked to nominate top doctors on an annual basis.

A “highly honored” Obadero said the recognition will add further drive to excel in his profession.
