No Shooting Incident in Abuja – Police

The Police Command in FCT says no shooting incident occurred “at a place of worship in Garki, Area 10, Abuja, on Sunday.

This was contained in a statement issued by Mr Jimoh Moshood, the command’s spokesman.

The statement advised the public to ignore the report of shooting incident in the territory, adding that they should go about their lawful businesses without fear.

“No incident of shooting occurred in Area 10, Garki, Abuja, or any other location throughout the FCT and no incident was recorded in any place of worship in the territory as well.

“Members of the public are advised to be vigilant and go about their lawful duties and engagements without fear or apprehension,’’ it said.

The statement said the clarification was informed by a text message in circulation, alleging that shooting was going on in Area 10, Garki, Abuja, and that the Boko Haram sect was set to attack some churches in the city.

NAN recalls that on Saturday the command announced the deployment of 15,000 personnel to provide security during labour’s planned strike over the removal of subsidy on petrol.

The strike is scheduled to begin on Monday, Jan. 9.

Mr Michael Zuokumor, the Commissioner of Police in FCT, said the personnel would provide security for workers who would participate in the strike as well as those who would not.
