The Balogun of Ibadanland, Owolabi Olakulehin is set to become the next Olubadan of Ibadan following the passing of Oba Dr. Mohood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
However, this will be subject to the approval of Governor Seyi Makinde.
Olakulehin, the Balogun of Ibadanland, is the head of the military line of the Olubadan system.
There are two ruling lines to the throne of Olubadan – Egbe Agba (civil) and Balogun (military). Olubadans are appointed from the lines on a rotational basis to occupy the stool on the death of a monarch.
Olakulehin is the next in line to become the 43rd Olubadan of the ancient city.
Governor Makinde, on Thursday, announced the passing of the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. Mohood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II.
The governor announced the monarch’s passing in a statement on Thursday night, stating that Olubadan Balogun joined his ancestors late Thursday evening at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.
Governor Makinde described Balogun as an epitome of royal excellence and a great achiever, who made great marks on Ibadanland in just a little over two years of his reign.
He expressed his condolences to the Olubadan-in-Council, the Oyo State Traditional Council and the people of Ibadanland and Oyo State, praying to God to grant repose to the soul of the deceased monarch.
The statement signed by Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Special Adviser (Media) to Oyo State Governor, said: “With total submission to the will of God, I announce the passing unto glory of our father, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. Mohood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
