The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki has paid a thank-you visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Villa this Friday.

It is believed that the visit became necessary since from all indications the President maintained neutrality in the run-up to the elections. It is a known fact that a compromise of the security services and the electoral umpire otherwise popularly referred to as “the deployment of federal might” could have produced a different result favourable to the APC.

Obaseki whose mandate was renewed for a new term at the polls last week Saturday in an election which has been generally reported as free and fair was in the company of his deputy, Hon Philip Shuaibu as well as their wives and some Edo state lawmakers on the visit.

Obaseki crossed over to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from Buhari’s All Progressives Congress (APC) when he was disqualified from partaking in the party’s primaries.

Speaking to State House correspondents after the visit, Obaseki put paid to speculations that he might be considering returning to the APC, saying it would be immoral to do so.

Obaseki and his deputy had earlier in the week being presented with their Certificate of Return following their victory. They are billed to be inaugurated for the new term sometime in November.
