A well-known family in Osiele, Odeda Local Government Area, Ogun State, has publicly disowned one of its members, Mr. David Abiodun Popoola, citing embarrassment and disgrace caused by his alleged involvement in serial bisexual practices.

The decision was announced over the weekend during a press briefing held by David’s paternal aunt, Madam Felicia Popoola, and his maternal uncle, Pastor Tunde Akinwande.

In her statement, Madam Popoola expressed deep disappointment, stating, “In all sincerity, we all love David as he is an enterprising member of the family who is married and well-to-do.

However, we can no longer stand the shame and disgrace brought upon the family by his involvement in bisexual practice.”

The family’s decision to disown him, she explained, was rooted in their desire to protect the family’s reputation.

Pastor Akinwande, visibly distressed, recounted the events that led to this drastic action.

According to him, David’s involvement in bisexual activities had been a source of ongoing concern for years.

“This issue reached a critical point during a recent ceremony here in Ajegunle when David was caught at IBD International Hotel in Ilaro, engaging in sexual acts with one of his male friends, Samuel Abutu.

The two were beaten almost to the point of death,” Akinwande said.

The situation escalated when police were called to the scene, but David managed to escape before their arrival.

Samuel, however, was handed over to the authorities, facing legal consequences and ultimately passing away from injuries sustained during the attack.

This tragedy has further fueled tensions, with Samuel’s family accusing David of luring him into a homosexual relationship that led to his death.

The incident has not only led to legal ramifications but also severe social consequences.

According to Pastor Akinwande, the police have declared David a wanted man, and he has been banished from both the Osiele and Ajegunle communities under the directive of the local traditional ruler.

“By being so disowned, David has lost his claim to any family inheritance that had been his portion,” Akinwande noted, emphasising the finality of the family’s decision.

The disownment marks a significant and painful chapter for the Popoola family, as they grapple with the fallout from this deeply contentious issue.

The community remains in shock, and the case continues to draw attention to the complex and often harsh realities faced by individuals involved in same-sex rel
