The Ondo state government has berated the opposition for its continued spread of falsehood against it and its officials, declaring that the attempt to blackmail it by its constant fabrication of lies to bring it down will fail.
A national newspaper, The Nation and an Akure based radio station, Adaba FM, both owned by Bola Tinubu, who desperately seeks homogenous patronage in the southwest, had gone to town with a report that the Economic and Financial Crime Commission EFCC had arrested some officials of the state government.
Reacting to the report, the State’s Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade said the report is false in its entirety adding that the men in question were at their duty posts till the end of work on Thursday and are currently with their families within the state.
The Information Commissioner reported that the officials are thoroughly embarrassed by the barrages of calls they have been receiving over the false arrest report.
Condemning the continued ridicule of the journalism profession by the opposition organs, Akinmade said the aim of the opposition is to cast aspersion on the government stressing however that the intention would fail as the many of such attempt made in the past have failed.
The game plan of the opposition, Akinmade further revealed , is to use the false reports to destabilise the state government using the EFCC but forgetting that the anti corruption establishment does not act on sentiment and would not allow itself to be dragged into politics.
“The opposition, especially the Action Congress are becoming excessive in their campaign of calumny and blackmail to cast aspersion on the state government all in the name of Politics but their plans will fail.
“It is unethical to go on air to tell the people what is not right or publish deliberate falsehood to satisfy a predetermined agenda a trend that has now become the stock in trade of the opposition organs.” He said.
Insisting that the state government is aware of their intention, Akinmade offered that “The opposition party is acting a script thinking that the EFCC will fall prey to their frivolous petitions but the EFCC will not allow itself to be used especially when the opposition party have been bragging in the state that it has the anti corruption agency in its kitty “
Akinmade said the people should disregard the arrest story and reiterated that the people of Ondo state will not serve a foreign god no matter the antics.
“They have embarked on so much propaganda all in the attempt to distract the government and paint it black before the people, but all the attempts have failed and this latest one will not be an exception. But the people of the state should be rest assured that by the grace of God, their enemies would successfully been buried on the 20th of October when the gubernatorial election shall hold in the state.” Akinmade affirmed.
