The pall of uncertainty hanging on the career of Ondo State Deputy Governor, Mr. Agboola Ajayi, finally devolved on the House of Assembly
this morning as the die is now cast for his impeachment.
The impeachment drama is the culmination of Sunday night consultations allegedly midwifed by the Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Chief ‘Tayo Alasoadura and the factional Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, in the State, Mr. Ade Adetimehin.
Barter exchange is said to be involved. The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Honourable Bamidele Oloyelogun, was allegedly induced with an initial Ten Million Naira. The promised balance remains vague, although a source said it could be as high as another Ten Million Naira.
Each lawmaker purportedly received Five Million Naira to flush out the estranged Deputy Governor considered troublesome and unconscionable. Each lawmaker may have been pegged for a balance of Five Million Naira after Agboola’s political destiny may have been definitively altered by the torturous process. Some of Agboola Ajayi’s aides like Mr. Allen Sowore are caught in the unfolding purge.
The premises of the House of Assembly are blanketed with heavy security personnel. The lawmakers are relying extensively on Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution to undress and finally judge the Deputy Governor as no longer fit to occupy the office. Sowore has been dispossessed of all government properties and belongings.
In spite of the air of deniability so far pushed by Akeredolu’s minders, today’s culmination is coming as no surprise. Sharpedgenews broke the news of such removal preparations about six weeks ago.
Ajayi moved into opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Sunday when he picked his membership card at his home town, Kiribo, Apoi in Ese-Odo Local Government. He would not let go of his hold on the news cycle as he capped his defection with a rally many considered a carnival on Monday. Present at the event wee fire-spitting PDP stalwarts like Prince Uche Secondus, PDP National Chairman, Chief Clement Faboyede, former Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Peter Ayodele Fayose and others.
