Ondo Labor Party Leaders Move to Recall Decamped Federal Lawmaker Abegunde

Labour Party leaders in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State have begun moves to recall the lawmaker representing Akure South/North in the House of Representatives, Mr. Ifedayo Abegunde, after he defected to the Action Congress of Nigeria.

They also declared their support for Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s second term bid. The leaders stated this after a stakeholders’ meeting at Iju in the Akure North Local Government on Sunday.

The party leaders, who attended the meeting included political appointees, local government executives and ward executives.

Notable among the people who attended the meeting were the lawmaker representing Akure North State Constituency in the House of Assembly, Mr. Akindele Adeniyi and the Commissioner for Culture Tourism. Adeniyi denied the defection of some members of the LP had plunged the party into a crisis, saying the party was ready to dominate any election in the state.

He said, “We have agreed to work together for the second term of governor Mimiko. We are very confident that the governor will scale through the second term hurdle because the LP remains the only visible party in the state.

“As a party, we have put the case of some of our members who defected to the Action Congress of Nigeria behind us.”

Adeniyi said the necessary machinery had been put in place to recall the federal lawmaker by people from his constituency through collation of signatures of people who voted for him.
