RULING Labour Party (LP) in Ondo State has exposed what it described as “undercover moves by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to unleash maximum terror on Ondo State and turn it into a theatre of war ahead of the October 20th gubernatorial election.”
The LP alleged that the opposition party had procured N200m worth of arms and ammunition with which various attacks are intended to be unleashed on the state to prevent a conducive atmosphere for the election due to hold in about three weeks.
Calling on law enforcement agents to make it a matter of urgency to investigate the activities of the party and its agents who are planning to unleash terror on the state, the Labour party also hinted at a strategic meeting where details of the plan were discussed.
The LP’s Director of Publicity, Mr. Koye Odogiyan, in a statement in Akure On Monday said, as part of the plans to effect this, arrangements have been concluded by the opposition party to bring to the state ahead of the October 20th election date one hundred sophisticated guns and the accompanied ammunition as well as bullet proofs which the organization claimed the ACN had already procured.
Further, it said apart from the 100 guns that have been procured, the ACN it also alleged, had procured camera cap, Walkie-talkies, phones and video buttons with which some clandestine activities would be carried out on the Election Day.
Imploring the security agencies to as a matter of urgency beef up its apparatus to prevent any breakdown of law and order, in the state, Odogiyan said “we are privy to details of a meeting held by the leadership of the ACN where it was announced that they have procured guns, bullet proofs, Video buttons, camera cap among others to the tune of N200m.
“They intend to use these materials to destabilize the state ahead of the October 20th gubernatorial election and even scuttle the election as they have planned to unleash terror on the state and ensure the environment is not conducive for a free and fair election.
“It was reported at the meeting that these weapons of mass destruction have been procured and are waiting to be smuggled into the our dear state”
Odogiyan said no effort on the part of the security agencies can be too much to ensure that security of the people are guaranteed before, during and after the elections, he thus appealed that no effort must be spared to ensure that the state is secured for a free and fair poll “especially when the ACN’s candidate in the October 20 election, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu at the weekend publicly threatened to use gun on a Labour Party chieftain”
