Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s second term bid has aggravated the split in the leadership of the Ondo State chapter of People Democratic Party (PDP) as its majority this Thursday abandoned the party’s flag bearer, Olusola Oke and endorsed the incumbent Governor.
Notable party leaders like Senator Bode Olajumoke, Ambassador Olu Agbi, a relation of ex-Governor Olusegun Agagu, Dr. Ayinke and others have all endorsed the Mimiko ticket which is now getting multi-partisan support even to the Nigerian presidency .
Lagos lawyer and publishing writer, Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim, who had rolled out threatening beats of joining the race in Ondo State confirmed to Sharpedgenews.com last week that his ambition has been sheathed for the post Mimiko’s second term expected to lapse in 2017.
Sharpedgenews.com gathered that the Bode Olajumoke support group which has now openly addressed a press conference in Akure, the state capital, considered the fraudulent claims to development made by successful administrations in the state on its first thirty years of existence against the backdrop of the real infrastructural works going on in hamlets, villages, towns and cities all over the state.
Senator Olajumoke was also said to have been angered by the penchant of former governor Dr. Olusegun Agagu for personalizing the Leadership of PDP in the State.
“Agagu is not a uniting Leader”, said one of the dissecting leaders of the group in an exclusive chat Tuesday night in Akure. And unfortunately, Agagu is said to be in the habit of selling his fraudulent views to former president Olusegun and other PDP leaders in the south-west.
“Obasanjo comes to Ondo state, says all sorts, comments on issues he poorly understands and thinks we would Follow him, not so fast”, said the leader who chose anonymity to avoid accusation of anti party conduct.
Some of the PDP leaders told sharpedgenews.com that the said amount fifteen million naira (#15m) for Olusola Oke was provided by Mr. Kingsley Khimi Kuku, presidential adviser on Niger Delta. They claimed that Mimiko various achievements in terms of transformation projects and good governance in the state recommend him for continuity and explained that whoever would want to run against Mimiko as things are now, would be running against the people of the state.
