THREE police formations were attacked by suspected members of the Islamic sect popularly known as Boko Haram in northwestern Sokoto State on Monday, claiming the life of at least one police officer.
A suicide bomber had driven a bomb-rigged vehicle into the office of an Assistant Inspector General, AIG at the Marina Police Command, according to eyewitness account.
A second attack took place at the Unguwar Rogo police station in the same deadly fashion.
A local police officer, who does not want his name mentioned, confirmed the attack at the AIG’s office. He also gave the name of the slain police officer as Constable Suleiman Danjuma.
The anonymous policeman said three other officers were injured in the attack and that they have been taken to an unknown hospital for treatment.
No official statement has been released to confirm the blast.
An official statement is expected soon following an ongoing meeting at the Central Police Station between the AIG, whose office was badly hit, and the Director General, Press and Media of Sokoto state, Hassan Maccido.
The bomb affected the East Wing of the station which houses the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police.
