One Feared Dead, as Thugs, Gunmen Disrupt Kogi Primary

Violence and disorder rented the air at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship primary election even as one person was said to have been shut dead.

 

The violence was said to have erupted when shortly after voting and at the point of sorting and counting gunmen emerged and took over the venue of the primary election at the state stadium with gun shots in diverse direction.

In the ensuing melee, bullet hit one Abdullahi Loko Ibrahim killing him on the spot. The deceased was immediately conveyed to his KotonKarfi for burial.

While, PDP officials are pointing accusing fingers to Governor Yahyah Bello, as being responsible for the violence and disruption of the PDP Primary election.

However, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, said the violence perpetrated by the ruling party will not save the APC from losing the governorship election.

The Publicity Secretary said APC is already on its way out of Kogi government house.

He said: “It is clear that the Governor and his party have become chaotic in the face of rejection by the people of Kogi State.
Ologbondiyan, while down playing the violence as asserted in some section of the media, said PDP had a peaceful, decent, credible and transparent process in the conduct if the primary.

On the fairness of the election, he said evidence that the election held peacefully is still available, adding, our resolve is to kick APC out of governmence in in Kogi.

The party said: “This is more so as the attack has further United our governorship aspirants..

“Indeed, nothing can distract from this as the attack has bolstered the Kogi electorates.”

While calling on PDP to put their house in order, Governor exonerated himself and APC from the violence at the election.

His Spokesperson, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, in a statement took a swipe at the crisis ridden PDP election, adding that APC on the other hand conducted a hitch free election,adding that PDP should desist from blame game for it’s lapses.

At the end of votes count, Mr. Musa Wada was declared winner of the beating 12 others. He garnered 748 votes to beat Alhaji Abubakar Idris who got 710 votes.
