Oni’s Supporters Dispute Fayemi’s Stunt Over Newly-Commissioned Projects in Ekiti

A fresh controversy has broken out between former Governor Segun Oni and the incumbent Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who actually initiated work on recently completed five major intra-state roads.

Supporters of Engineer Segun Oni, who was removed as Governor of the state through a controversial political ruling, are accusing Dr. Fayemi in relation to a two-page advertorial in Sunday’s edition of The Nation, taking credit for the construction of Ijero-Ikoro-Okemesi, new Iyin-NTA-Ilawe bye-pass, Igede-Ilawe, Ayede-Igede-Omu and Ilawe-Erijiyan roads – that the complete picture of who really did what was not being given the public.

Fayemi takes credit for the project. But ordinary folks in Ekiti dispute such “self adulation” as “deceitful” as the projects were said to been initiated and paid for by the previous government of Oni, before being sacked from office by a judiciary said to have been bought by Action Congress of Nigeria, the ACN.

Lere Olayinka, spokesman for Oni, said in a statement on Sunday that  “We read with amazement a two-page advertisement in The Nation newspaper of today on Fayemi’s achievements, and one cannot but wonder how shameless a government can be, in search of justification for the huge resources available to it.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Ijero-Ikoro-Okemesi, New Iyin-NTA-Ilawe bye pass, Igede-Ilawe and Ayede-Gede-Omu were completed close to one year before Fayemi became governor.

“Ekiti people, who have used these roads before the Salamic judgment that installed Fayemi, can bear witness.

“Apart from roads, Fayemi also listed procurement of audio-visual equipment, establishment of modern editing studio, installation of broadcast equipment and completion of state of the art studio for the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State (BSES), which is a lie!

“The equipment were already purchased and installation almost completed before he (Fayemi) became governor.

“Even though we understand Fayemi’s desperation to disabuse the minds of Ekiti people, who already see him as a failure and disappointment, it amounts to high level of falsehood, deceit and shamelessness for the governor to have advertised projects already completed before he assumed office as his achievements.”
