
The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, on Tuesday, commended the State of Israel for its assistance
to Nigeria in the area of Methanol Fuel Production Technology.
Onu made the commendation when the Ambassador of the State of Israel to Nigeria, Amb. Shimon Ben-Shoshan visited him in his office in Abuja on Tuesday.
The Minister hailed the close relations between Nigeria and Israel and said that Nigeria’s partnership with Israel had helped considerably in the quest for knowledge and innovation-driven economy.
According to Onu, the post-COVID era had stressed the need for Nigeria to move from resource to knowledge and innovation-driven economy in her bid to achieve socio-economic progress.
The Minister recalled the recent Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the two countries for the implementation of methanol fuel production technology.
According to the minister, the methanol fuel production technology would expand the chemical industry chain-value, preserve our environment as well as add value to our huge gas resources in the country.
He further stated that Methanol Fuel Production Technology would replace Kerosene as household cooking fuel and contribute to efficient and effective transportation.
Methanol technology will also help in climate change mitigation, improve electricity generation and help in the economic diversification of the country, he added.
Other benefits of the technology include stimulating foreign investment in the Oil and Gas Sector as well as creating employment opportunities for our teeming youths, Dr. Onu added.
