Dear Sir,
RE: BAKASSI PEOPLE’S RIGHT TO SELF-DETERMINATION
The Lagos League of Political Parties (LLPP) would like to task President Goodluck Jonathan in his capacity as the commander in chief of armed forces to urgently put up all necessary military protective measures around self-determination right seeking people of Bakassi Penisula.
It is clear that almost a decade of possessing Bakassi, Central Africa republic of Cameroon has not shown any interest in the people of Bakassi but on their land and it’s natural resources.
Following the reports that Cameroonian armies have started preparation that could lead to military onslaught against Bakassi people, Nigeria must therefore rise to its duties by compelling Cameroun to respect Bakassi people’s right to self determination and to start the processes of dialogue.
Self-determination remains a principle in international law that people have the right to freely choose their sovereignty and international political status with no external compulsion or interference.
A stitch in time saves nine and this is not the time to wait.
Best regards,
