Oreta Town Boils

– One Killed – Police Arrest 3 Suspects – Several Injured – Residents Flee Town

Three suspects (names withheld) are been detained by the Lagos state Police Command for their alleged roles in the murder of a man and destruction of properties at Oreta village in Ikorodu.

 

Police source  confirmed to our report  that the suspects were arrested  based on a petition by the Arowolo family of Oreta to the office of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police urging  the police to come to their aid as a group allegedly sponsored by the  Buriamoh family of Oreta have taken  laws into their hands.

Police confirmed also that one Freeman Zannu was murdered in the fracas while several others received injuries and are been attended to in various private clinics in Ikorodu.

 

The father of the murdered man Mr. Simeon Zannu told our reporter that they were in the village when suddenly they had gun shot and they started running for safety, however on know to him his 25yrs old son Mr Freeman Zannu had been hit severally by stray bullets shot by thugs of a group supposedly according to him sponsored by the Buraimoh Family of Oreta.

 

Mr. Zannu in his late fourties, a professional fisherman further told our reporter that peace had eluded the Oreta village since the land tussle between the Buraimoh family against the Arowola family in Oreta and mentioned one biyo who actually shot his son along with his other gangs including one john bull,Alowonle, Wareen all from the Arowolo family of Oreta.

 

“We are from badagry and we are not in any way involved in the land tussle between the Buraimoh  and the Arowolo families,we bought lands here and for more than five years we have been concerned with our fishing business, I want the government to do justice to the murderers  of my son and also I am appealing to Governor Fashola to appeal to the warring families to let peace rein in the community as the war situation has affected their own Sejiro village settlement in Oreta.”

 

Mr Zannu also told our reporter that he never spoke to one Mr Ozogbe Okoeki of the nations newspaper on the issue and was surprise that the nation reporter whom he never met or seen could quote him on the issue.

 

On the day of the incident Mr Zannu stated further that after the police left some irate youths invaded their community and shot his son(freeman zannu).

 

Contacted Mr Biyo,a member of the Arowolo family told our reporter that he came with the police to effect the arrest of Mr Olaide Ogunyemi, show boy, and baba jushua and left with the police to SARS office in ikeja along with the suspects.

 

Mr Biyo further stated that while at the SARS office in ikeja ,news got to him that thugs led by the Buraimoh family had attacked villages in Oreta and its environs  and as a result several people where injured while one rumored to had been hit by a stray bullet.

 

Mr Biyo spokes person on the Arowolo family of Oreta however distance himself from the murder of anybody in Oreta village and urged the Lagos state police command to investigate properly as the police now have 3 suspect in their custody.

 

In a supreme court judgment in suit no:145 of 1937 made available to our reporter ,judgment was made in favor of the Arowolo Family of Oreta and also a high court judgement with suit no:id/1372/96 delivered by Justice Olukoba in which judgment was also made in Favor of the Arowolo family as against the Buriamoh family.

 

A community leader in Oreta village who preferred not to be mentioned  told our reporter that economic activity in Oreta village has come to stand till as a result of the land tussel between the Arowolo family and the Buraimoh family and described the use of armed thugs by these families as a dangerous dimension in solving land problems.

 

A middle age woman who identified herself as a member of the Buraimoh family confirmed to our reporter that the murder of Freeman Zannu portends an unhealthy climate in the community and appeal to the necessary security agencies to come to their aides.

 

As of the time of filling this report residents of Oreta town had fled to neighboring communities while the presence of armed thugs is visible in all corners of the community.

 

The Lagos state Police spokes man Mr. Samuel Jinadu could not be reached for his comments on the incident but the Divisional Police Officer for Ikorodu Mr Ogundare a Chief Superintendent of Police could also not be reach on his mobile phone but a very senior police officer (names withheld) confirmed the murder of freeman Zannu in Oreta and further confirmed that some suspect who where involved in the incident where arrested and had been transferred to the Lagos State Police High Command for further investigations.
