Palliative: Ward Chairman Beats Ondo Commissioner to A Pulp

By Akin Orimolade

Could this be real ? was the question on the lips of all reasonable leaders of Akoko North West,Okeagbe Akoko as they watched in awe how a ward Chairman beat a Commissioner in the state to a pulp.

Initially, it was like a badly scripted comic play when at the beginning of a local government meeting on the distribution of palliative from the state government, a Ward Chairman challenged a member of Ondo State Executive Council (SEC) on why he was not made the Chairman of the Committee in his ward.

Eye witness account disclosed that all attempts by the Commissioner of Women Affairs,Mrs. Julianah Olubunmi Oshadahun, a Princess of Ikole Ekiti but married to an Arigidi man,to explain how members of the committee were chosen failed to convince the aggrieved Ward Chairman.

It was gathered that the Ward Chairman,Arigidi ward 1 APC Mr. Olumide Awolumate AKA CUBA ordered the Commissioner to shut up otherwise he would deal with her.

Thinking it was an empty threat, the Commissioner was said to have continued to explain why the Ward Chairman was not made a member of the committee but this infuriated the Ward Chairman,Mr. Awolumate who dealt heavy blows on her, turning her head to a punching bag..

When the woman was rescued from the claws of the Ward Chairman, the Commissioner was said to have reported the incident at the office of the Divisional Police Officer ( DPO), Okeagbe who assigned two policemen to invite the Ward Chairman.

It was gathered that the Ward Chairman became more aggressive when he saw the Commissioner and policemen in his Arigidi Akoko home. Again, he was said to have beat the Commissioner blue black as the policemen became helpless.

As at the time of going to press, the Commissioner is said to have been admitted for medical treatment in an undisclosed private hospital.

Efforts to get comments from the DPO of Okeagbe Akoko proved abortive.
