PCC Appointment: FCT natives threatens to shut down National Assembly

Natives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the aegis of Coalition of the FCT Indigenous Association have threatened to shut down the national assembly over their exclusion in the nominee appointment of commissioners as chief commissioner for the Public Complaints Commission (PCC).

Addressing a joint press conference in Abuja, on Friday, the Coordinator of the group, Alhaji Kamal Adamu Shuaibu, said despite the nominees for the position of chief commissioner for Public Complaints Commission (PCC) was made public as well as the state representative commissioners, the FCT representative was deliberately removed.

Shuaibu said the natives findings further confirmed that the PCC by the act establishing the commission was an operational organization directly under the supervision of the national assembly.

“Meaning that all the commissioners nominee for the 36 state and the FCT are nominated through the national assembly representative submission of their respective states and the FCT,” he declared.

He added ‘’more so, our findings summarily confirmed that the act establishing the PCC states that ” All commissioner nominee selected from the 36 states of the federation and the FCT from which a chief commissioner is made out of the supposed 37 nominees,

According to him, further findings have revealed to the natives that the FCT national assembly representatives unanimously agreed on the FCT nominees, which he said has also submitted a choice name for appointment as commissioner from the FCT.

“But was deliberately removed without the consent of our national assembly representatives and that purported nominee announced as FCT nominee is an inlaw to the speaker of house of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila whom we highly suspect as the figure head of this injustice,” he alleged.

The natives, however, said that they have consulted widely that the exclusion of representative of the FCT from appointment of PCC commissioner nominee was a clear injustice, which they said will not stand.

Also speaking, a house of representatives member for AMAC/Bwari federal constituency, Hon Micah Jiba, said it was an injustice that the issue of appointments of a nominee for the PCC was an act across the 36 states and the FCT, saying there was no reason that the FCT has none of its own representative.

He said he and his colleagues who are representing people of their constituencies has not been briefed about nomination of the appointment, saying it was an injustice that the house will take such decision secretly without reaching to representatives of the FCT.

“I want to say that we will make sure that nobody take our position as the position belongs to the people of the FCT, and we will ensure that nobody take it away from us,” he said. (NAN)
