PCC CHIEF COMMISSIONER, ABUBAKAR, VISITS KENYAN OMBUDSMAN, SEEKS CLOSER TIES

The Honourable Chief Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission (PCC), Honourable Bashir Abubakar, MFR, on Monday met with the leadership of Kenya’s Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ) in Nairobi.

The Chief Commissioner who was received by the CAJ Vice Chairperson and Access to Information Commissioner, Mrs. Dorothy Jemator, on behalf of the Chairman Mr. Charles Dulo, said the high-level visit was aimed at strengthening partnership between both institutions, particularly in the areas of public complaints management, legal frameworks, and the use of technology for efficient service delivery. He also stressed the need for knowledge-sharing on best practices in alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to enhance accountability and good governance.

During the meeting, Abubakar highlighted the PCC’s nearly 50 years of institutional experience in handling complaints with offices across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory which he said was for wider accessibility and impact. He stated that the Commission has consistently delivered on its mandate since its establishment and remains committed to improving service delivery through strategic partnerships with its international peers.

In her response, Jemator outlined the strides recorded by the Kenyan Ombudsman institution in its 15 years of operation notably in the implementation of the Access to Information Act (2016). She explained that the CAJ currently operates eight regional offices and 12 Huduman centres with plans to expand the institution’s reach by decentralizing services to all 47 counties in Kenya. She said the CAJ would be happy to collaborate with the PCC and to learn from its extensive experience.

Present at the meeting were Ms. Mercy Wumba, CAJ’s Secretary/CEO alongside technical officers of the organization.
