The Public Complaints Commission (PCC) has commended Nigerians for the level of compliance in connecting their phone numbers to their personal National Identification Numbers (NIN)
particularly when the initial deadline is over.
The Honorable Chief Commisioner, Public Complaints Commission (PCC) Honorable Abimbola Ayo-Yusuf, made the commendation on Thursday, in Abuja, during a one day symposium organised by the Commission.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the symposium is titled: SYMPOSIUM ON INSTITUTIONAL REFORMS ON MOBILE NETWORK PROVIDERS COMPLIANCE TO NIN POLICY.
Honorable Abimbola, said however the registration is still a continuous obligation on the part of mobile phone network subscribers to go and link up their sim cards accordingly.
According to him, It is indeed a bold and right step towards ensuring and safe guarding lives and means of livelihood of the people optimally.
“Furthermore, I want to also thank the investigation department for their thoughtfulness and proactive steps in this appraisal effort today and its other social
engagement in recent times.
“This singular attempt by the Nigeria ombudsman is noble and it is really in tandem with the mandate of our Commission as the statutory watchdog in the country.
“As a custodian of societal norms, values, civil, and cherished culture as it relates to good governance and universally acceptable ethical standard with a zero tolerance against any administrative injustice in any form or guise that is inimical to peoples wellbeing and wellness which is can create threats, chaos and crises within the polity.
Besides, he said on the 6th August, 2001, the Federal Government of Nigeria led by the then Executive
President and Commander-In-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The Commissioner said Chief Olusegun Obasanjo launched the global systems for mobile communication popularly known as GSM after deregulating the Nigerian telecommunication sector. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
