PCRC tasks FG on adequate logistics, resources for Police

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), FCT command has called on the Federal Government to provide adequate logistics and resources for the Nigerian Police Force to help promote effective security in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT. 

The Chairman FCT Command of the PCRC, Dr. Rufus Ebegba made the call in Abuja at an event to mark the 40th anniversary of the Police Community Relations Committee in Nigeria.

Dr. Ebegba said the PCRC had over the years supported the Nigeria police with logistics, and also ensured cordial relationship with communities for effective intelligence gathering to the police.

According to him, the Command has concluded plans to establish units of the PCRC across wards of the Federal Capital Territory to ensure prompt information delivery to the Nigeria police for effective security of the FCT.

‘’We have tried as much as possible to provide logistics, and also create a greater relationship within the police, and the communities in the FCT, and also provide intelligent information to the police.

‘’I also appeal to the FCT and the Federal Government to provide more logistics and resources for the police in areas of power bikes, amoured helicopters, bulletproof jackets, more vehicles and give information to the police, in order to operate effectively’’ Dr. Ebegba stated.

He explained that the PCRC in the FCT was trying to create units, whereby, members of trade union will also become members of the PCRC in order to help provide necessary information for the safety of the nation.

However, he, urged the state governments to involve the PCRC in the communities, as members of the security committee in the state.

‘’In the area of advocacy, we have visited the traditional rulers, the local governments, as well as the communities, and notified them of the need to be involved in the PCRC, by providing logistics and reporting criminal cases to the police.

‘’We are trying to create units, whereby, members of trade union will also become members of the PCRC in order to help provide necessary information for the safety of the nation.

He explained that the PCRC was engaging every relevant stakeholder in the FCT to be involved in police community relations which informed the setting up of the units.

The Chairman also appealed to the Nigerian Police Force, to adequately screen innocent people from criminals, particularly when raiding some hot spot.

The Chairman PCRC  Karu area command Dr. Bartholomew Agbo, said the PCRC provides opportunity for people to relate and identify with the police and assist the police to achieve their daily tasks and objectives.

‘’As a matter of fact we know that the police cannot work without information gathering and we have been working together to reduce the crime rates in our various jurisdiction and location of residence’’ he said. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
