PDP South West Leaders Hold meeting in Ondo State: Resolve to Re-energise Party Structure

A meeting of the South West leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was on Wednesday held at the Ondo State International Culture and Event Centre,

(The Dome), Akure, Ondo State.

The meeting was hosted by the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and his Ekiti State counterpart, Mr. Ayodele Fayose.

In attendance are notable party leaders and former national and state political office-holders from the states of Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo, Lagos, Osun and Ogun.

Also present were special guests of South West extraction from the academia, elder statesmen, public sector practitioners, professionals, youths and students.

The communique was read by the former Minister of Sports, Prof Taoheed Adedoja.

During the meeting, Governor Fayose cleared the air on the rumors that he has score to settle over leadership matter with Governor Mimiko of Ondo state and the former Vice Chairman of the party in the South-West, Chief Bode George. He stated that the report that he and some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party in the South-West are having issues over the forthcoming election of the national chairmanship of the party is not true.

His words: “I read it in the newspapers that Chief Bode George abused me, but you can see me and him sitting beside each other here. He and I have come a long way, we are together. Dr. Mimiko and I have no score to settle too, we are together and are bound to agree”.

He however urged members of the party to elect people that have idea of running the affairs of the party at the forthcoming National Convention.

“There is nothing wrong with the PDP but the individuals in the party, I want us to push forward people with great ideas, Nigeria is too big for octogenarian to be the President. We need young people with energy to do this job for us”, he said.

The leaders said that there is the urgent need to re-energise the structure of the PDP in all the South West states and Nigeria at large.

At the end of the deliberation, the leaders concluded that the time is ripe for all members of the PDP in the Southwest to forge a common front and pursue a common agenda towards occupying their destined leadership position in Nigeria.
