PDP Uncovers Opposition’s Plot to Discredit its Leadership

The Peoples Democratic Party has alleged that a group of opposition parties are planning to use INEC and the judiciary to discredit its leadership and destabilize the party, according to release issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary on Sunday.

“We wish to alert Nigerians to a destructive plot by certain reactionary forces who are working hand in glove with collaborators in INEC, have manufactured spurious reports against the party,’’ Metuh said.

According to him, they are using judicial officers of questionable integrity to destroy the credibility of the PDP 2012 national convention which brought in its current National Working Committee (NWC).

Metuh said that till date, the PDP remained the only political party in the country that conducted transparent internal elections which started with the ward, local government and state congresses.

This, he added, culminated to the national convention.

The PDP spokesman maintained that the party’s 2012 convention was not only unique in the level of participation of party members, but was free of rancour.

He said that participants at the convention also exhibited a sports-like attitude.

Metuh stressed that the party`s current NWC since its inauguration had maintained “a sound working rhythm with party members and critical stakeholders’’.

He said with the recently concluded peace and reconciliation tour of the party’s NWC and the complementary peace initiatives of its Board of Trustees Chairman, the party had been repositioned.

He warned that the PDP leadership would not fold its hands and watch while its hard earned credibility was being destroyed “by those who lack self-confidence in free and fair democratic process
