The Inspector of Police, Mr Hafiz Ringim, has directed DIGs in charge of the six geo-political zones in the country to relocate from Abuja to their zones to coordinate security in their areas.
The DIG incharge of North East Zone, Audu Abubakar, made the disclosure in Bauchi on Monday when he paid a courtesy call on the Bauchi State Deputy Governoe, Alhaji Sagir Abubakar.
He said that the move was part of measures to tackle current security challenges in the country.
“We were directed to relocate to the zones to assist the commands under the zone to contain the security situation,” he stated.
Abubakar, who announced that he would be operating from Bauchi, solicited the support of the people to ensure a crime free and peaceful society.
He stressed that security was the responsibility of every Nigerian, urging stakeholders such as the government and traditional institutions to encourage community policing so as to get everyone involved in securing the country.
The DIG commended the Bauchi State Government for its assistance to the state’s command of the police, soliciting more support to enable the police discharge their responsibilities more effectively.
Responding, the deputy governor expressed the determination of the State Government to continue rendering moral and logistic supports to the police for it to excel.
Saleh commended the police for the plan to set up a Mobile Police Squadron in Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro, areas he described as “prone to ethno-religious crises”.
He appealed to the authorities to hasten the take off of the squadron and promised to assist in accommodating the personnel.
The deputy governor called for the upgrade of the bomb detection unit of the state command for effective monitoring and surveillance.
He called on the authorities to halt the frequent and unnecessary posting of personnel out of the state, to enable them acquaint themselves with the terrain toward easy detection of crimes.
