POLICE Inspector-General Mohammed Abubakar has directed Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of police in charge of states to ensure adequate security throughout the Easter celebration.
Abubakar gave the directive as part of his Easter message to ensure that worshippers are safe as well as travelers, holiday makers, as well as the public during the period.
“Command Commissioners of Police are to personally ensure that key and vulnerable points in their jurisdictions, including places of worship, recreation centres, motor parks, highways and financial institutions are adequately protected.’’
The IG wished Christians and other Nigerians a peaceful celebration and urged them to emulate the selfless attitude of Christ.
Abubakar reminded them that Christ victorious resurrection on Easter Day was preceded by painful crucifixion to redeem mankind.
He also called for “open-mindedness to issues of forgiveness, peace and harmonious co-existence in consonance with the teachings of Christ, especially at this trying moment in the history of our dear country. ’’
Abubakar stressed the need for patience, understanding and cooperation with the police in the fight against crime and solicited for useful information to track down undesirable elements in the society.
He said that some police officers like Jesus had paid the supreme price while others were being subjected to all forms of dangers and deprivations in the line of duty for the peace, unity and progress of the country.
