The Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC) has announced plans to unveil the 2024 Justice Sector Assessment Report, aimed at improving access to justice in Nigeria.
Lucy Abagi, Chief Executive Officer of PPDC, stated this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.
She said the report was part of the centre’s efforts to drive meaningful change and contribute to a more just and equitable society for all Nigerians.
Abagi said the PPDC would also host its second annual Access to Justice Parley, bringing together key stakeholders in the justice sector to discuss, promote, and implement innovative solutions to improve access to justice in Nigeria.
The event’s theme, “Advancing Effective, Innovative, and Inclusive Justice Reforms in Nigeria,” reflects the centre’s commitment to promote justice sector reforms in the country. The event is scheduled for November 19.
“The Access to Justice Parley will feature a series of dynamic sessions, including the unveiling of the 2024 Justice Sector Assessment, which was conducted in 13 states across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria.
“The event will bring together government officials, judiciary members, legal practitioners, civil society organisations, and international partners to discuss actionable reforms.
“PPDC’s commitment to justice reform is evident in its successful implementation of the Court Administration and Case Management (CACM) and Reforming Pre-Trial Detention in Nigeria (RPDN II) projects.“
Abagi said these projects, funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), have led to significant improvements in court administration, reduced pre-trial detention, and enhanced access to justice for vulnerable populations.
