The Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has said that as a registered and card carrying member of the All Peoples Congress (APC)
in Rivers State, he has the right to promote or back any qualified candidate for the governorship position come 2019, even as he refuted insinuations and claims making the rounds that he has purportedly appointed a candidate.
In a statement he signed on Saturday as sent by his media office, Amaechi, said, his attention has been drawn to several wild, misleading, misguided and deliberately distorted stories and claims linking him to a purported ‘appointment’ of a governorship candidate for the APC in Rivers State for the 2019 gubernatorial election.
Minister said: “As an individual, a registered voter and a card carrying APC member from Rivers State, it is his inalienable, constitutionally enshrined democratic right to back/support/promote any qualified fellow party member of his choice, to aspire to be the candidate of the party in the State in the forthcoming governorship election or any other election.
He said his attention was drawn to misleading and deliberately distorted stories linking him to a purported ‘appointment’ of a governorship candidate for the APC in Rivers State in the coming 2019 gubernatorial election.
However, he said that as a member of the party, he recognizes that APC’s candidates for the 2019 general elections will be chosen/elected by party members through the prescribed democratic process in the party’s constitution, rules and regulations.
He averred that it is intentionally disingenuous and deceitful for anyone to claim, allege or even insinuate that he has “appointed” a governorship candidate for APC in Rivers State.
