Robbers Raid Ogun State Revenue Office, Carting Away N20 Million

DARE-DEVIL burglars sacked the Internal Revenue Service offices in Ogun state at about 2am on Friday morning, and absconded with N20 million in tax-payers funds.

Numbering about 5, the robbers reportedly broke into the office through a window of the building, which is situated less than a quarter of a mile away from the office of Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun.

An employee of the agency who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the issue said that about N20 million naira was in the vault prior to the robbery, which the robbers apparently stole.

Confirming the incident later on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, said the police had already arrested the guards who were on duty when the burglary occurred, saying that the arrested guards were being interrogated.

According to Mr. Adejobi, “It is true that some people burgled the IRS office and made away with some amount of money. We have already swung into action. We have with us the guards who were supposed to be on duty that night. We are questioning and investigating them.

“We cannot confirm the amount of cash stolen from the IRS office but by the time the complainant finishes writing his statement, we’ll be able to ascertain the exact amount and deduce some other helpful information.”
