Rotaract clubs to empower 500 youths with skills in FCT

The Rotaract Club of Abuja Federal Community Base and the Rotaract Club of Abuja Federal Alpha said that plans are underway to empower no fewer than 500 youths with various skills in the FCT.

The leaders of the club said this at the Joint In-House Handover Ceremony, organised by the clubs in Abuja on Thursday.

Mr Theophilus Apeh, Incoming President, Rotaract Club of Abuja Federal Community Base said the club would be providing skill acquisition programmes to reduce unemployment rate of young persons in the FCT.

“One of the things we do in Rotary Rotaract Club is that we have adopted communities where we reach out to.

“For instance, we have Piwoyi community in the FCT, where a lot of social amenities are lacking and we have been reaching out to them and providing for them.

“For this rotary year, we will be having a lot of trainings, as we discovered that a lot of young people do not have what they do for a living.

“We have mapped out some skills that we will be teaching youths such as solar design and installation, printing, baking and catering.

“Though, 500 beneficiaries is our target but we will try to surpass that benchmark because we are committed to empowering the youths to be self-reliant,” he said.

Mr Oladokun Emmanuel, Incoming President, Rotaract Club of Abuja Federal Alpha said that humanitarian services are important to complement governments’ efforts in reaching out to the less privileged and vulnerable groups in the country.

He said that on its part, the club would also be equipping members with various vocational skills to make them outstanding in their various fields.

Also, Mr Junaid Olatunji, National Youth Coordinator, Police Community Relations Committee commended the clubs for their efforts in equipping the youth with various skills, as it would reduce social vices in the country.

He advised the incoming presidents to ensure that beneficiaries of the projects are empowered with knowledge and also with finances, leadership skills and ideals, so that they could be independent.

One of the out going president of the clubs, Ms Philomena Okechukwu, urged their successors to ensure they carry out people centred projects in various communities in the FCT.
