The Rotary Club of Abuja, Central Business District (CBD), has unveiled a signage to educate residents on how to get help in times of distress and insecurity.
The District Governor of District 9127, Rotarian Mike Nwanoshiri, said during the unveiling on Tuesday in Abuja that the signage aimed to create awareness among Federal Capital Territory residents.
According to him, the project is in collaboration with the Nigeria Police.
“With this signage, we want to raise awareness of the club’s humanitarian efforts worldwide and to highlight the excellent work the Nigeria Police are doing to protect lives and property in the territory,” Nwanoshiri said.
He added, “In emergencies or cases of insecurity, the signage provides all the phone numbers to call.
“The Police are your friends, get the numbers and call them whenever you need assistance.”
In spite of economic challenges, he stressed that Rotary remained committed to doing more for the people.
Nwanoshiri further explained that similar signage would be installed at all entry routes into Abuja and urged residents to respect and keep the signs clean.
The President of the Rotary Club Abuja CBD, Rotarian Katherine Adamu, noted that funding was a challenge but emphasised that Rotary’s mission was to combine resources to help humanity.
She appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to support efforts to aid the less privileged.
“The signage also includes information about our meeting times and locations. With more than 50 Rotary clubs in Abuja, this will help raise public awareness,” Adamu said.
She added that the project was done in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Complaint Response Unit to assist people who might not know where to seek help during emergencies.
“This will enable many people to call for assistance when needed,” she said.
Also speaking, the District Governor of District 9112 from Lagos, Rotarian Olufemi Adenikan, commended the signage project and urged it be replicated nationwide.
“It is important for citizens to know where to get help when necessary. We want to thank the Nigeria Police for making Abuja convenient, peaceful, and safe,” Adenikan said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the phone number on the signage for assistance via SMS and WhatsApp is 08057000003.
Email contacts are complaint@npf.gov.ng and policepcrru@gmail.com. The phone numbers for calls include 08057000001, 08057000002, 09133333785, and 09133333786.(NAN)
