Three week after the conduct of the governorship election in Ekiti State, all is not well within the rank of the All Progressives Congress (APC)
over the call by the candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi, for the return of unutilised funds for the poll.
Checks by our correspondent showed that the call for the refund of the unused funds not only unsettled some party leaders, but caught them napping.
Few days after the election in which Fayemi was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission, he called a meeting of party leaders and asked for an account of how money given them was spent.
Sources said Fayemi, who had calculated how much was given each leader and the votes got from each polling unit, came to the conclusion that most of the leaders did not disburse money given then as expected.
An angry Fayemi reportedly asked each of them to account for the money given them and match it with the votes recorded from their units.
“Each leader was then asked to refund the amount expected to be the left over. Most of the leaders were embarrassed by the development as they thought that since the election had been won, what ought to follow would be how positions would be shared and not the refund of money spent on the poll,” a source said.
Most of the leader left the venue of the meeting unsettled and disappointed, as only few of them returned some funds.
The development has caused a lot of disaffection in the party, as some believe it could signal how Fayemi might run his administration when he resumes office.
