Sen Ekweremadu Expresses Fears for Nigerian Democracy, Grateful to colleagues & Nigerians

Deputy President of the Senate,Ike Ekweremadu has said the manner his residence in Apo legislators’ quarters was put under siege by security agents early Tuesday thereby denying him from attending Senate plenary was a grave danger for our democracy.

Ekweremadu stated this while speaking with journalists when senators on the platform of PDP paid a solidarity visit to him. He expressed worry that in a democracy he could wake up to the sad reality of his houseg being surrounded by security agents. They came with a letter that that he had issue to explain at the Economic and Finanancial Crimes Commission EFCC. He was willing to make himself available to the anti corruption agency, but the same security agents said he couldn’t leave the house.

It was reliably gathered that the aim of the security agents was to prevent Ekweremadu from going the National Assembly to preside over plenary since Saraki was billed to keep an appointment with police at 8 am same Tuesday over investigation into Offa bank robbery. That would have either paralysed Senate sitting or provided an opportunity for a leadership change at the upper legislative chamber.
