Sierra Leone anti-corruption leader advocates fight against corruption

Abuja, March 26, 2021 (NAN) Mr Ben Kaifala, the Anti-corruption Head of the Republic of Sierra Leone, called on African leaders to invest in prevention measures to fight corruption in the continent.

He made the call on Thursday in Abuja during the Focus Africa award with the theme ‘Africa’s Transformational Journey.’

`Focus Africa Magazine’ was also launched.

Kaifala said such measures required technology, resources and high earned consultancy to set them up, adding that prevention measures would reduce corruption by 60 per cent.

“ Most African countries focus on the fire Brigade way of fighting corruption by arresting and detaining people when they have already stolen funds.

Mr Sucex Bright, the convener of the event noted that Focus Africa Series was established to encourage dedicated entrepreneurs thriving in several industries and also to celebrate leaders with milestone achievements.

Bright said that these leaders have continued to raise the bar through their dedication, passion and resilience to build companies that have contributed to the growth of the economy in Africa.

He urged African to portray the good image of the continent and change the negative narrative about Africa.

The Focus Africa Series, one of Africa’s top leadership, business and entrepreneurship platforms, has presented awards of excellence to some prestigious individuals for their remarkable contribution in the society.

Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West constituency, Mr Abubakar Kure, Managing Director Nirsal Microfinance Bank and many others received the awards for their different contribution to their community and Africa at large.

One of the awardees, Kure thanked the organisers for the recognition saying, investment in youth have multiplied effect as it reduces poverty and insecurity.

He encouraged youths to login to Nirsal portal and access the loan.
“ We engage youths in the COVID-19 loan scheme for them to be self-employed and reduce crime.
“Login in to our portal and access our loan so as to upgrade our standard of living,’’ he said.

Some of the awardees include the Goni Zakari who had continued to fight hunger in North-East Nigeria by feeding 1,000 almajiris since 2016 till date.

Others include, Dr Mohamed Jalloh, vice President, Sierra Leone, Senator Dino Melaye, Mr Valentine Ozigbo, Dan Nwanyanwu, Chairman Zenith Labour Party, Dr Uchechukwu Ogar, Minister of State for Steel and Mines Development and many more. (NAN)
