South-South, South-West Leaders Urge Jonathan to Sack Disloyal Staff, Security Officers

* South East Governors, Igbo Political Leaders to Meet on Security

Some South-South and South-West leaders have urged President Goodluck Jonathan to sack all those with doubtful loyalty

from his government and the security services.

The leaders made the call in a communique at the end of their inaugural meeting on Saturday at the residence of Late Obafemi Awolowo, in Ikenne, Ogun.

The leaders stated that the call was against the back drop of the President’s recent comment, that the Boko Haram has infiltrated the government, the armed forces, the national assembly and the judiciary

They also called on the President to regard the activities of the Boko Haram as treason and apply the relevant laws on any of them caught or their sponsors.

The communiqué jointly signed by Chief Edwin Clark and Bishop Bolanle Gbonigi, condemned the killing of innocent lives by the Boko Haram and noted that the group was posing serious threat to national unity.

They condemned the group’s Friday multiple bomb blasts in Kano and expressed support for the deployment of the military to all areas affected.

The leaders also joined the call for the sanitisation of the oil and gas industry, reduction in the cost of governance and total war on corruption to ensure sustainable growth of the economy.

The communiqué also called for a national conference to fashion out a new constitution for sustainable national unity.

The South-South delegates include Ediden Abasidvtu, the Obong of Calabr, Dr Edmond Daukru, Amanyanando of Nembe, Chief Felix Majakpero, Orodje of Okpe, Sen. Bassey Ewa-Hensaw and Olorogun Felix Ibru.

The delegates from the South-West are Chief Dipo Diya, former Ogun governor, Chief Gbnega Daniel, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, Mr Reuben Fasoranti, Mr Gani Adams, Chief Olu Falae, and Chief Olanihun Ajayi, among others.

Meanwhile the South East governors said in Enugu on Sunday that it would meet with Igbo political leaders to deliberate on the security situation in the country.

The Chairman of the South East Governors Forum, Mr Peter Obi, told newsmen at the end of the forum’s meeting that the deliberation would focus on security situation as it affected the people of the zone.

“And the outcome of the meeting would be the final position of the people of the zone.

“Today, we held a meeting and we deliberated on one issue which is the security situation in the country as it affects us from this zone.

“We have decided to call a meeting of all Igbo political leaders to discuss the issue and make our position known to the public within the next seven days.’’

Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo, Gov. Martin Elechi of Ebonyi, Gov. Sullivan Chime of Enugu and Gov. Thedore Orji of Abia attended the meeting.
