The American University of Nigeria, Yola, has expressed concern over the spate of killings across the country.
The President of the university, Prof. Magee Ensign, made the stance known in
Yola at a news conference, saying the university had invited important groups in the community to look at ways of promoting peace among the people of Adamawa.
“The university strongly condemns the recent spate of killing of innocent people in Adamawa and the country at large.
“The university has arranged a meeting with various representatives of community groups on how to work together to build a strong community.’’
Ensign identified poverty, poor education and the lack of social amenities among the major factors stoking civil unrest in Nigeria.
She promised that the university would play an important role in building peaceful co-existence between its immediate community and the country at large.
