Suspected Islamic Sect Members Kill Policemen in Kano

GUNMEN suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect yesterday gunned down two policemen at the Dorayi quarters of Kano metropolis.

The slain policemen were on guard duty at the residence of a top police officer when the insurgents struck at about 1.30 p.m.

A soldier who was on guard duty was killed in a similar circumstance at the residence of an Army chief at the Hotoro quarters of the metropolis at the weekend.

Residents of the area scampered for safety when the gunmen who came on motorcycles launched their latest deadly attacks on the metropolis.

Kano State Police Commissioner, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris confirmed the incident, adding that investigations had begun to unravel those behind the heinous act.

“During the gun duel, two policemen were killed, two others were injured while the hoodlums escaped with bullet wounds after they were given a hot chase by members of the public. The suspects abandoned their motorcycles and took to their heels. Police immediately commenced investigation,” he said.
