The Minister of Communications, Barr. Adebayo Shittu in Friday expressed federal government’s determination to support Tecno Nigeria on their plans
to build phone assembly plant in the country.
The minister who made the disclosure during a courtesy call by Techno Nigeria delegation in a statement signed by Mr. Daniel Enoch of the public relations department said the partnership will help Nigeria to create jobs and to achieve the nation’s technological development drive.
Shittu in the statement said President Muhammadu Buhari is fed up of Nigeria becoming a dumping ground of foreign products, hence, the need to encourage local production of all brands of technological gadgets in the country which would also boost job creation amongst the teeming youth.
According to the minister, the establishment of an assembly plant in Nigeria is long overdue, urged the company to fast track the necessary arrangements to make the plan a reality soon.
He promised that the government on his part would do everything possible to ensure that Techno succeeds, in as much as, it’s capable of enhancing the technological and other development needs of Nigeria and its people.
He commended the company for employing over 3500 Nigerians while encouraging them to do more to create job opportunities for the Nigerian youth.
In an remark, the General Manager of the company, Mr. Chidi Okonkwo who led the delegation, thanked the minister for availing them the audience.
Okonkwo, revealed that the company’s products are becoming households name in Nigerian market as a result of the enabling environment created by government in the sector.
