Tension as GL 1-12 Workers Resume Amid EndSARS Protests

By Dayo Omoogun

There is palpable fear and safety concerns as all Federal Government who had been working from home since March return to work today.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Federal Government workers on Grade Level 1 to 12 were instructed to work from home by the Head of Civil Service, Dr. Folashade Yemi Esan, on the strength as part of the precautionary measures proferred by the Presidential Task Force to contain the spread of the virus.

Last week Thursday however, the Task Force lifted the restrictions and asked all such workers to resume work today even though they will still be put in groups to work on alternate days. Some workers who spoke to Sharpedgenews expressed fears that with the increased number of persons who have to go to work compulsorily from today, the road blockages by youth protesters will aggravate the stressful traffic for commuters and provoke tremendous hardship.

According to Yemi Moses (real names withheld)a level 10 staff of one of the ministries said” though we are eager and excited to go back to work after such a long, unavoidable holiday, safety is Paramount. The government could have just ensured that the protests are sorted out before calling us back.”

On his part, Hassan Adamu ( not real names) who works with the Ministry of Budget and Planning says “Do we even know whether we will be able to find a way around the roadblocks mounted by the protesters? We will go and try and see whatever happens”
